Learn to Skate 

No Prerequisites

Learn to Skate USA® programs make skating fun and safe for all as they grow a life long love for skating. Through our updated curriculum and our certified, passionate instructors, we build solid skill progression to grow confidence in skaters of all ages while providing them the resources necessary to reach their skating goals. Southern Minnesota Skating Club offers programming for all ages and levels. Regular skill evaluations will be conducted to ensure skaters are learning and progressing at a rate that is just right for them. The first half of all classes consists of focused instruction, and is followed by skill based games and play. Classes are offered in small groups and held in 30 minute sessions.

Learn to Skate Hockey

Mite Level 4 and Up

The Learn to Skate USA® hockey program makes skating fun and safe for all as skaters are supported and challenged to grow in their skating skills. The Learn to Skate Hockey curriculum is the only curriculum endorsed by Hockey USA. Taught by our certified and passionate instructors, we build solid skill progression to grow confidence in skaters of all ages while providing them the resources necessary to reach their skating goals. Regular skill evaluations will be conducted to ensure skaters are learning and progressing at a rate that is just right for them. Classes are offered in small groups and held in 30 minute sessions.

Power and Edge

Backwards Crossovers Required

Power and Edge classes are designed to support skaters of all interests, hockey and figure skaters alike, and serve to increase a skater’s efficiency on the ice. This 30 minute class consists of exercises that focus on deep edges, increasing power, and improving one’s ability to maneuver on their blade.

Individual Instructions
and Practice

No Prerequisites

Skaters interested in individual instruction are invited to join us with a coach on open free skate sessions. Second year squirts and older can also use these sessions for individual skating practice. Skaters interested in working with a coach should contact SMSC to connect with our certified skating instructors. Skaters interested in using this ice can purchase ice in various increments or walk on if room exists. All skaters using this ice are asked to give 24 hours notice of their intent.
