Southern Minnesota Skating Club is a non-profit organization that exists to create a supportive skating community. We strive to provide, and continuously foster, a positive and inclusive environment on and off the ice while ensuring opportunities to all types of skaters

and skating enthusiasts.

Lydia DeBoer 

Lydia has been in the competitive figure skating world for about 14 years. She has coached many ages and levels of Learn to Skate and enjoys the coaching side of skating. She is a USFS Gold Medalist in Moves In the Field and Solo Free Dance, and has also passed Novice Freeskate, as well as Freestyle 7 in ISI. Lydia is currently on the MSU Maverick Hockey Cheer Team while majoring in nursing. Skating is Lydia's happy place and she is excited to share her knowledge with other skaters. Her favorite part about skating is that there are so many opportunities and paths to express yourself and continue enjoying the sport.  In Lydia's free time, she loves to shop, workout, be creative and spend time outside.

Isabelle Desens

Isabelle (she likes to be called Belle) is from Rochester, Minnesota and has been skating since she was 4 years old. She is a USFSA Gold Medalist in Moves In The Field and Solo Free Dance. She has been interning with Learn To Skate for 5 years and has been coaching for 2, working with skaters of all ages. Belle is a National Showcase competitor, specializing in edge work and choreography, and is currently enrolled in a Masters Choreography and Techniques course with certificate graduation slated for January 2024.  She is active in American Ice Theatre  since 2022 and is part of the AIT (Minneapolis Chapter) professional company. Off the ice, Belle has a love for all things beauty and works part time at Ulta Beauty. Her pride and joy is her cat, Egg, whom she found on the streets as a kitten. 

Sophie Privette

Sophie has been skating since she was 2 years old. She is on the MSU Maverick Hockey Cheer team and attends Mankato State University, majoring in Exercise Science on a pre-OT track. Before graduating high school, she was involved in synchronized skating, ice dance, free skate, Moves In the Field, and was on her high school’s varsity figure skating team. Sophie is a USFSA Gold Medalist in Moves In The Field, has passed Freeskate up to Novice, and is currently working towards her Gold Medal in Solo Free Dance. Her favorite thing to coach is choreography and Moves In the Field. She is very passionate and loves to watch skaters grow in all aspects of skating.


Ryan Casper

Ryan began skating at age 4 in a youth hockey program where he learned the value of strong skating skills. Since then, he has skated in multiple leadership positions with hockey teams throughout North Dakota and Minnesota, including the Mankato West High School men's varsity hockey team. After graduating from Mankato West, Ryan played junior hockey with the Minnesota Ice Hawks, followed by a DII championship season with the University of Minnesota, Crookston men's hockey team and three years with Gustavus Adolphus men's hockey varsity team. After college, Ryan began his coaching career as the head coach for Mankato West High School JV men's hockey team, and currently helps coach with the Mankato Area Hockey Association. Ryan has found great joy in sharing his love of skating with others, most notably his wife and their four children. After decades of finding community support in numerous ice rinks, Ryan feels privileged to be able to support area skaters of all ages and interests.  


Cecelia Casper

Cecelia Casper has been on the ice since age 3. Cecelia is a competitive figure skater with a passion for Showcase performing, appearing at the National Showcase competition in 2021 and 2022. She has passed Pre-Silver Singles (Intermediate Freeskate), Silver Skating Skills (Novice Moves), and the Bronze Ice Dance level. Off the ice, Cecelia likes to read and spend time with family. Cecelia coaches in our Learn to Skate Program, both groups and individuals.


Nicole Lecy

Nicole Lecy began her coaching career in 2002 and has coached with both ISI and USFS programs. Her coaching experience has guided skaters at all levels, beginner through Gold level testing, including national champions. When she’s not coaching, Nicole works as an art teacher and enjoys spending down time with her family.


Allee Johnson

Allee Johnson is a competitive figure skater and 2023 Excel Intermediate National Champion. She began coaching in 2022 and has discovered a newfound love for skating while teaching others about something she is so passionate about. Allee has passed her Silver Skating Skills (Novice Moves) test as well as her Pre-Silver Singles (Intermediate Freeskate) test. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family and her goats.

Julia Schneller

Julia Schneller is a passionate Learn to Skate coach, both in group and individual settings, with a background in ballet and dance education from the Joffrey Ballet School in New York, NY and the Rock School in Philadelphia, PA. With over a decade of skating, Julia has achieved Pre-Silver Moves and Bronze Freestyle levels, showcasing her proficiency on the ice. Her nurturing approach and love for working with young skaters inspires the next generation to discover the joy of skating.

Julie Van Amber

Julie Van Amber has coached at the Dorothy Hamill Skating Center/Ice Chalet from 1994–2002, at the New Ulm Figure Skating Club from 2004–2018, and Diamond Skating Circle 2018–present. She has been a Professional Skaters Association member since 2005. Julie is an ISI Gold level judge. Julie coaches in our Learn to Skate program and offers private lessons as well.


Maddy Nicholson

Maddy Nicholson has been skating since she was 3 years old and appreciates the lessons skating has provided in facing challenges and setting goals. She is currently working on her Pre-Silver Singles (Intermediate Freeskate) and Silver Skating Skills (Novice Moves). Maddy enjoys coaching kids and feels privileged to have the opportunity to model the value of hard work and pushing oneself to accomplish the next hard thing. Maddy coaches in our Learn to Skate program.


Sharon Schneller

Sharon Schneller has been skating for decades and has introduced generations of her family to the love of skating. Sharon enjoys inspiring our littlest skaters in our Learn to Skate program, both groups and individuals. Aside from coaching, Sharon spends her time on the ice working on her own skating goals, and enjoys practicing ice dance. Off ice, Sharon enjoys spending time with her grandchildren and connecting with members of the community.

Robin Van Amber

Robin Van Amber is gender fluid and uses he/they pronouns. They have been skating for as long as they can remember—their first steps were taken on the ice! Robin is a two-time Minnesota State champion, first in 2016 in the Open Pre-Juvenile category, and then in 2017 in the Open Juvenile category. Robin is also a member of the American Ice Theatre Professional Company Minneapolis/St. Paul chapter. When not on the ice, Robin can be found working on a degree from Rasmussen College in Early Childhood Education and spending time with their 8 pets. Robin coaches in our Learn to Skate program, both groups and individuals.


Southern Minnesota Skating Club is proud to be affiliated with United States Figure Skating and Learn To Skate. We are excited to welcome people of all ages, backgrounds and skating experiences to join us as club members and participate in our programs.
